Expect it to be roughly 90 minutes because of everything we have to cover.
The first session involves a detailed interview called a clinical assessment. That foundational conversation facilitates us getting to know each other, identifying your concerns, and finding an ideal approach to address them.
Prior to our first session, you will receive electronic paperwork to join the patient portal. Any paperwork you struggle with online can be handled in person as well.
I will give you clear instructions through email about how to find the office and what to bring with you. If virtual, I give you a link to follow and clear directions via email for easy reference. Nothing should feel confusing or unclear and I want you to feel taken care of!

Generally my availability is weekdays during regular business hours, email me directly and we can likely work out a different time for you if you need a later session.

Research has proven it over and over again - therapy is most effective when you come once a week. I always encourage clients to come weekly for the first month at least. The frequency of your sessions is always something we will decide on together so that the process makes sense for your life and for your finances.
I have had clients who stayed in therapy for 1-3 months and felt ready to stop, others who came for a year, and others who came monthly. We can decide together what makes sense for you. Ending therapy is a personal decision and I support you wholeheartedly.

Sessions last 50 minutes, except for the initial intake session which sometimes lasts 90 minutes.
Sessions are priced by the session, not by the minute. So it’s best not to rush your session for economic reasons. If you feel like ending early, that’s up to you but it might indicate you need less therapy. We’ll cross that bridge.
Intake sessions last longer because of the detailed clinical interview, which involves gaining lots of relevant information. They’re pricier because they take longer, and I must process paperwork and develop a treatment plan, and those can be time consuming.

My best work is done with children ages 10 and older, adolescents, teens, and adults. Children younger than 10 are best served by me coaching their parents and caregivers about their needs and how to meet them.
As for couples, both parties must be equally committed to change for me to have the best results.

Yes, I realize I live in a remote town, so I do offer virtual appointments! I use a HIPAA compliant platform and I give easy-to-follow instructions that make it simple and quick to connect! At this time, counselors are not allowed to see clients across state lines so you must be a North Carolina resident to see me virtually.
