In-person office

In-person counseling in Siler City.

The Shepherd's Heart Counseling office is at 209 S 2nd Ave, Siler City, NC 27344 — a small brick house with blue awnings just off the downtown square. This page is for anyone considering in-person work: what the office is like, how to find it, and when in-person is the right choice over telehealth.

The office.

The office is a small brick house on South 2nd Avenue in downtown Siler City, a few blocks off the main square. It's a house, not a clinic — warm rooms, wood, natural light, and the kind of quiet you can actually settle into. There are two entrances; you use the North entrance, which is closest to the waiting area and the restroom. The South door is the treatment side and John is often in session there when you arrive, so please don't knock on it.

Parking and arrival.

Parking is off Chestnut Street, right beside the building. Come a few minutes early on your first visit — signing intake paperwork the first time takes ten to fifteen minutes and it's easier to do that unhurried than to start a session with it. There's a small waiting area if you'd rather sit than wait in the car.

What in-person offers that video doesn't.

Video is a real tool and John uses it a lot, but there are things it doesn't do well. Children and younger teens read the room and the adult in front of them in ways that don't come across on a screen. Trauma work — especially work involving nervous system regulation and EMDR — often lands more fully in person because bodies respond to being in the same physical space. High-conflict family sessions where multiple people are in the room and reading each other's cues also tend to go better in person. If any of that describes what you're bringing in, we'll usually recommend starting in the office.

Who tends to choose in-person.

Parents doing intensive work who want a real weekly ritual outside their house. Families where the concern involves a younger teen who might not engage on a screen. Anyone doing EMDR or trauma-focused work. People who live within thirty to forty minutes of Siler City and simply prefer being in the room. If you're driving further than that, or your schedule is squeezed by work or by other kids at home, telehealth is often the better choice — we'll help you figure out which format fits your life.

Not local to Siler City? Telehealth is available anywhere in North Carolina. You can also see the contact page for a map, directions, and the office's north-entrance note.
